CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT? HERE'S WHY...

PRINTER FREINDLY VERSION |

Certain that no matter what you do you can’t lose weight? You aren’t alone in your feelings. But that shouldn’t comfort you. All that means is that you are one of the many folks who are walking around with the unfortunate mindset that weight loss will forever be out of reach. But one thing that is well within reach is today’s awakening – it’s calling you to evaluate your goals and your habits to discover the real reasons you can’t lose weight.

1. You don’t really want to change. Daydreaming about losing weight is a good way for the daydream version of you to look and feel great. But if you refuse to look long and hard at your lifestyle -- or to put in the effort it takes to change your reality -- that daydream will not come true. Yes, losing weight and getting fit and healthy are hard work at first. But once you get rolling, you won’t want to stop!

2. You’ve stopped eating. Do you think the key to weight loss is calorie restriction? You’ve got one itty bitty step in the equation – cutting calories. But while you do need to think about your calorie consumption in regards to the calories you burn everyday, the last thing you’re going to want to do is stop eating. And the way to lower your metabolism and hinder your weight loss and health further!

3. You are blinded by the lite! You are sure you’re doing the right thing by keeping all those 100-cal packs and pre-portioned light snacks and nibbles in your kitchen. But… you’re also keeping them in your desk drawer, your bedside table, your glove compartment and the bathroom. Don’t make the mistake of over-consuming by believing that if they are not that bad for you that you can eat several helpings. Neglecting to consume healthy portion sizes will make even the lightest of treats a heavy burden on your weight loss.

4. Do you really mean that you “can’t lose the 30 pounds you’d like gone by tomorrow morning?” If so, you’re right. You can’t lose significant weight overnight. But you can shoot for 1-2 pounds a week. Keep your expectations realistic and realize that a pound or two is actual weight loss, and that those are one or two pounds you won’t be carrying around with you anymore!

If you find yourself typing “can’t lose weight” into Google four times a week while looking for quick fixes, it’s time to give your fingers a break. There is no magical mystery cure for weight loss that makes it possible for some to achieve and impossible for others. Quit saying “I can’t” and start realizing all the ways that YES YOU CAN!
